Montessori childcare method is a validated, empirical method to teach your children in the early stages of life. It has been observed and seen that Montessori methods are proven to be one of the most effective methods to raise children. As a child grows older, he goes through different phases of development over the course of time. Just as the way a child needs change over the course of time; similarly, the environment must change according to the need. Any specific type of training or activity in a certain stage is not necessarily always helpful in the other stage. It can even be harmful to teach the children activities of one stage to the other stage. There are four different and distinguishable periods of development in a child. All of these changes are quite noticeable, but the manifestation is not always the same and differs in children on various levels. Montessori daycare training for these children differs according to the stages of development, and each stage consists of six years. Four planes of development are given below.
The first half of every stage has shown the most abrupt changes while the other half is more stable than before. There are noticeable similarities in the first and third planes of development in terms of needs and abrupt changes. The second and fourth planes of development also have noticeable resemblances.
2. The 2nd Plane of Development Children are more energetic but rather calmer than the previous plane of development. Children have learned a few of the basic skills related to intelligence, coordination of movement, speech and overall personality of the child. The child becomes more logical and starts using the reason for the exploration of the world around him. Imagination is one of the most important tools for him to learn and explore. The child does not have an absorbent mind and has a more inquisitive, curious mind in this plane of development. Identity is also one of the most important factors of this plane of development. A child needs to be accepted in the group of his peers in order to fulfill the need and avoid identity crisis. The child becomes distant with his family and starts adjusting into the peers. Autonomy is what brings them closer to their peers than their family. The child also learns the moral and ethical codes of his home and school. Montessori daycare method also tells us that discipline and organization is also learned in this plane of development. Children are also introduced to fairy tales and the win of good over evil. It also causes moral development in the child. 3. The 3rd Plane of Development The third plane of development can be compared to the first plane of development because it transforms the person both psychologically and physically to a great extent. It is also divided into two subcategories.
4. The 4th Plane of Development This phase is their step towards practical life, and they most likely face transition at this point in their life. They might already have their experience of living away from home. They are also in search of a career which does not only use their talent but also pays well. If they already have the right exposure and skills, they will be able to find their way in the world. If the children are successful in their career search, they become satisfied, more tolerant and patient towards their parents. The person is now an adult and the economic development is paramount in this plane of development. If a child does not reach the goals of this plane of development, he becomes frustrated, isolated and drawn towards a life of shame and guilt. A sense of direction in career and a romantic relationship at this plane of development is of utter importance. Conclusion Maria Montessori wanted an academy for those young minds and a separate school of children from the third plane of development and onwards but was not able to build such academy. She built her concepts around the specific needs of children of every age. If we focus on these planes of development, we can build a better environment for children. Activities suited to the children’s age and natural disposition will lead to happy and healthy children and adults.
